I was informed that the system was 'Working as designed' and running the fans at 41% or more because the M.2's at the back of the system need that air flow to cool them. Room is AC'd and kept at a constant 73* so ambient is not an issue. I have since removed the BOSS risers from both systems, upgraded the firmware to version 6.10 and re-deployed the OS on two SAS HDD's on the front controller.(I did have to purchase two HDD's for one of the systems to implement this solution.) System's now run and sit idle at 12% fan speed. Went through parts exchanges with Dell, new SSD's, new BOSS riser, and then settled on it NEEDS the v6.0 firmware on the iDRAC to support necessary cooling for the M.2's at the back of the system.

Every 15 min, and then it started to flag the M.2 drives as bad. I downgrade the iDRAC from version 6.0 to 5.10 and it begins to run like the R450 and spins down the fans to 21% once booted to the OS with performance profile and sound cap enabled. R650xs delivered, boot up and idle the fans are running at 41% in any bios profile, with or without sound cap enabled. Fans run at 21% when in performance mode and sound cap enabled. To sum it up, I was delivered an R450 and that was deployed as a domain controller and has been working fine for a month or so on the iDRAC 5.10 firmware. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if I'm the only lone soul. I had a horrible experience with this setup regarding the fan speeds and necessity to run iDRAC v6.0 or higher to prevent raid crashing and M.2 drive tagged failures. I was wondering if there is anyone out there running a Dell R450 or R650xs server with the BOSS riser and M.2 drives to run the OS.
